PATROL DIVISION

The Patrol Division is the uniformed backbone and most visible division of the South Amboy Police Department. It services the 8,0001 people that live in the city of 1.62 square miles.

Patrol officers are fully trained to handle any call for service. Such duties include medical and fire emergencies, domestic distrubances and traffic control, as well as the initial investigation of all crimes. The Patrol Division is made up of five sergeants, ten patrolmen and is headed by Captain Bruce Richmond.




TRAFFIC DIVISION

The South Amboy Police Traffic Bureau offers a variety of essential services to the city of South Amboy. The Traffic Unit reviews all motor vehicle accident reports within the city as well as overseeing the duties of School Crossing Guards.

The Traffic Bureau primary concern is roadway safety. Analysis of traffic patterns and traffic accidents helps determine where the police department must use greater enforcement.

The Traffic Bureau also administers programs, some funded in part by state grants, such as Agressive Driving, Click it or Ticket (seat belt program) and Driving While Intoxicated. The Traffic Bureau is headed by Ptl. George Kern.




INVESTIGATIVE DIVISION

The South Amboy Police Department Detective Bureau is responsible for investigating most crimes committed within the city. The Detective Bureau also includes a Juvenile Bureau for crimes committed by persons under the age of 18.

The Detective Bureau is staffed with individuals who are specially trained to conduct criminal investigations. Detectives continually receive training that assists them in their investigative duties and enhances their skills. The Bureau is made up of two detectives and is headed by Captain Darren LaVigne.
